Assembly Instructions (5 Steps)
Follow each step carefully. Work together to clean waste, score precise cuts, align pivots, and test kinetic mechanics.
Establish the 4-Stick Starter Lock
Lay Stick 1 and Stick 2 in an open X shape. Place Stick 3 underneath Stick 1 and over Stick 2. Weave Stick 4 under Stick 2 and over Stick 1, locking the starter knot.
Weave the Repeating Cobra Alternation
Slide Stick 5 under the protruding end of Stick 3, bend it over Stick 4, and tuck it under Stick 2. Each stick creates a new cantilevered triangle.
Extend the Lattice Across the Room
Continue adding sticks one by one, keeping your palm resting on the latest cross-stick to prevent premature detonation. Extend 20 to 50 sticks in length.
Install the End-Lock Safety Stick
When you reach the desired length, weave a final cross-locking stick or clamp a binder clip across the last joint to secure the stored tension safely.
Release the Trigger & Film the Explosion
Set up your slow-motion camera. Remove the end safety lock and pull the starter stick. Watch the kinetic wave tear down the line in an explosive wooden spray!
Elastic Bending Energy & Propagating Kinetic Waves
Each interwoven stick is bent into an S-curve, storing elastic potential energy. Friction and normal force from neighboring sticks lock the system. Releasing the trigger stick unleashes a domino-like transverse kinetic wave.
The energy stored across 50 bent sticks releases in a fraction of a second, hurling sticks up to 1 meter into the air.
